Kia ADAS calibration requirements
Kia Drive Wise depends on a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield behind the rearview mirror. Replace or remove the glass and that camera's reference to the road changes, which is why calibration is part of the repair rather than an upsell after it.
What Kia Drive Wise is
Kia Drive Wise is Kia’s name for its driver-assistance suite. Not every feature in it looks through the windshield — blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are usually radar, mounted at the corners of the vehicle, and glass work does not disturb them. The features below are the ones that do depend on the camera behind your windshield.
Kia introduced Drive Wise as its driver-assistance sub-brand in 2016, and features were standardised model by model rather than on a single fleet-wide date. We do not publish a “standard from year X” claim because we could not source one.
Which features depend on the windshield camera
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, including vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist detection
- Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist
- Smart Cruise Control
- High Beam Assist
If your vehicle has any of these, the camera behind the glass is a safety component, and moving the glass moves the component.

Kia recalibration may involve a static process, a dynamic process, or both, depending on the model. Static target-based calibration is the typical case. We could not source this to Kia's own service information, so the procedure we actually follow on a given car is the one Kia service information specifies for it.

Kia has published collision repair position statements. We have not opened the specific document covering calibration, so we do not cite one by name.
