Subaru ADAS calibration requirements
EyeSight depends on a stereo dual-camera unit mounted at the top of the windshield. Replace or remove the glass and that camera's reference to the road changes, which is why calibration is part of the repair rather than an upsell after it.
What EyeSight is
EyeSight is Subaru’s name for its driver-assistance suite. Not every feature in it looks through the windshield — blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are usually radar, mounted at the corners of the vehicle, and glass work does not disturb them. The features below are the ones that do depend on the camera behind your windshield.
We do not publish a model year at which EyeSight became standard across the lineup, because we could not source that claim to Subaru. Availability varies by model and trim, so the question is about your specific vehicle.

Static or dynamic: what Subaru requires
Static at minimum
EyeSight requires a target-based static procedure at minimum. Sources outside Subaru disagree about whether a dynamic drive cycle is also required, so we will not state one — the answer comes from Subaru's service information for the specific vehicle. What is not in dispute is that the procedure is mandatory after glass replacement.

Yes, and it is unusually direct. Subaru of America's EyeSight position statement states that calibration is required after windshield replacement.
Position statements matter more than they sound like they should. When an insurer or a shop questions whether calibration was necessary, a manufacturer statement is the document that settles it.
EyeSight is a stereo system, which changes the stakes
Most manufacturers put one camera behind the glass. Subaru puts two, and EyeSight derives distance from the difference between the two images the way your eyes do. Both cameras must be recalibrated together, and the system's tolerance for a mounting error is correspondingly tighter. This is the system where “we replaced the glass and it seemed fine” is least likely to be true.
